What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific, problem-solving approach designed to produce socially-significant outcomes. In other words, Behavior Analysts aim to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities using the science of behavior. With a focus on positive reinforcement and motivation, behavior analysis has become the leading therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as it teaches children functional behaviors to help them become happy and more independent individuals. The application of ABA is not limited to individuals with Autism, however, over 60 years of research supports its effectiveness in meeting the complex needs of this population.

Achieve Beyond’s Albany ABA Programs include:
  • Team consisting of Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and highly trained Behavior Therapist (BT) or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
  • Verbal Behavior approach to increase language
  • Comprehensive Assessment with individualized goals focusing on increasing a child’s independence and happiness
  • Parent Training/Team meetings to encourage generalizations
  • Errorless teaching procedures to minimize frustration
  • Naturalistic teaching in a fun environment in order to capture a child’s motivation and keep them interested
  • Functional Behavior Assessment to determine why problem behaviors occur to determine the best strategies to teach
  • Functional Communication Training to replace problem behaviors with appropriate behavior
  • Social skills focused teaching plans and groups
  • Individualized, data-driven treatment plans are constantly and consistently updated based on the child’s progress

Meet Our ABA Clinical Directors

Lori Estein_Achieve-Beyond

Lori Estien M.S., BCBA, LBA

ABA Clinical Director

Lori is a Board Certified and a New York State Licensed Behavior Analyst has worked in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis with individuals with special needs and abilities since 2010.  After completing her undergrad in psychology, Lori realized her interest and passion for ABA and pursued her Master’s of Science in Psychology with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis.

While completing her Master's with Capella University, Lori worked in a public school setting as a 1:1 classroom behavioral support and home services technician to assist student's with generalizing skills learned in the classroom to the home as well as help parents with their own skills in supporting their child's progress and skill development.  Prior to Achieve Beyond, Lori worked as clinical BCBA/LBA supervisor and then Assistant Clinical Director for a non-profit agency where she provided in home treatment supervision, clinical support to the clinical supervisor, parent training and training development for staff.  In 2019 Lori began working with Achieve Beyond as a fee-for-service BCBA/LBA clinical supervisor.  Lori quickly learned that Achieve Beyond's core values and dedication to clients matched her own and she came on board as a full time clinical supervisor.  This allowed Lori work with many great families in Suffolk County and help them create meaningful and significant change in their child's life.  Lori has always been passionate about working closely with the families of her clients so that she can ensure the treatment approach and goals are individualized and socially significant to their child's unique needs as well as the family's values.  Additionally Lori is also dedicated to collaborating and assisting fellow colleagues in her field. As Achieve Beyond's ABA Fieldwork Supervision Coordinator, Lori worked closely with others to develop a comprehensive and immersive program that provides future behavior analysts with supervision while completing their fieldwork.  In January of 2021, Lori stepped into the role of Assistant Clinical Director for the Melville location where she works closely with the Regional Operations Director in providing clinical support to staff, conducting assessments, overseeing program changes, as well as continues to ensure clients are receiving effective and evidence based- treatment approaches in a fun and supportive environment.

How do I refer my child to Achieve Beyond? Call us directly at (914) 328-2868 for guidance and information.
If there are only concerns about speech, why does a child need an evaluation of cognitive abilities?
Delays in one area may have an impact on other developmental areas. In order to ensure that the child is achieving their milestones, a developmental evaluation may be completed or psychological evaluation as deemed appropriate.
What if my child has already received an evaluation in the past?
If your child has received any evaluation in the past year and you have continued concerns on your child’s development. You may contact Achieve Beyond and our skillfully trained professionals in the field will guide you in the next steps of the process.
Will my child be “classified” or “labeled”?
There is no classification or labeling in the Early Intervention Program. However, EI follows the eligibility criteria set forth by the New York State Early Intervention Program.
What happens when a child turns three years old?
For children receiving Early Intervention services, a transition discussion to CPSE and/or other programs will take place with the Service Coordinator at the IFSP closest to their 2nd birthday.

CPSE

CPSE

What is CPSE?

CPSE stands for Committee on Preschool Special Education. This program services children ages 3-5 who are found eligible to receive services through special education.

How do I refer my child to Achieve Beyond?

Call us directly at (914) 328-2868 for guidance and information.

Who can refer my child for CPSE services?

You must contact your local school district and register your child in order to submit a referral to the CPSE.
The district will contact you to complete all required paperwork to initiate the evaluation process. There
are timelines that both you and the school district must follow in order to complete this process.

How will I know what services my child will receive in CPSE?

Once all requested evaluations have been completed, you will be invited to attend an initial eligibility meeting scheduled by the district. During this meeting, the results of the evaluations will be discussed and the Committee will determine if your child meets NYS criteria to be classified as a preschooler with a disability. If your child meets NYS criteria, the Committee will develop an educational plan to support your child.

Do you have a school?

Achieve Beyond does not have a school. *EI services are for children under 3 years of age with suspected or established developmental delays or disabilities. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program funded by New York State. All children must be referred to the municipality to access services and the telephone number of the municipality must be included to facilitate a referral. Achieve Beyond’s programs are approved and funded by the New York State Department of Health. Services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to parents, although health insurance will be accessed for reimbursement. Eligibility is determined by state-approved evaluators under contract with NYC, Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties. If the child is found eligible, services are identified in collaboration with the parent and must be authorized by the municipality. The municipality will arrange for service providers to deliver authorized services. When EI services are delivered in child care settings or community locations that require a fee, the parent is responsible for paying any costs associated with the child care or community location. Call 311 or (518) 473-7016 for more information.
