Achieve Beyond offers introductory answers to frequently asked questions about specific service questions frequently asked by parents from each of our branches. If there are only concerns about speech, why does a child need an evaluation of cognitive abilities?

Delays in one area may have an impact on other developmental areas. In order to ensure that the child is achieving their milestones, a developmental evaluation may be completed or psychological evaluation as deemed appropriate.

What if my child has already received an evaluation in the past?

If your child has received any evaluation in the past year and you have continued concerns on your child’s development. You may contact Achieve Beyond and our skillfully trained professionals in the field will guide you in the next steps of the process. 

Will my child be "classified" or "labeled"?

There is no classification or labeling in the Early Intervention Program. However, EI follows the eligibility criteria set forth by the New York State Early Intervention Program.

What happens when a child turns three years old?

For children receiving Early Intervention services, a transition discussion to CPSE and/or other programs will take place with the Service Coordinator at the IFSP closest to their 2nd birthday.

What is CPSE?

CPSE stands for Committee on Preschool Special Education. These are services for children ages 3-5 who need any service on the special education continuum. 

How do I refer my child to Achieve Beyond?

Who can refer my child for CPSE services?

You or a qualified professional can refer your child to your local school district. That will start an evaluation process for your child. You will have to complete paperwork with your local school district that allows your child to be evaluated. There are timelines that both you and the school district must follow in order to complete this process. 

How will I know what services my child will receive in CPSE?

The services that your child will be eligible to receive will be determined by the Committee at the initial eligibility meeting. This decision will be based on the evaluations and reports presented during the meeting. The committee will include you and anyone you want to bring as well as individuals that will represent the school district and the evaluation representative.

Do you have a school?

Achieve Beyond does not have a school.

 

**EI services are for children under 3 years of age with suspected or established developmental delays or disabilities. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program funded by New York State. All children must be referred to the municipality to access services and the telephone number of the municipality must be included to facilitate a referral. Achieve Beyond's programs are approved and funded by the New York State Department of Health. Services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to parents, although health insurance will be accessed for reimbursement. Eligibility is determined by state-approved evaluators under contract with NYC, Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties. If the child is found eligible, services are identified in collaboration with the parent and must be authorized by the municipality. The municipality will arrange for service providers to deliver authorized services. When EI services are delivered in child care settings or community locations that require a fee, the parent is responsible for paying any costs associated with the child care or community location. What services do you currently offer?

Achieve Beyond currently provides ABA therapy for children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (F84.0) through health insurance. We are able to provide these services in your home, community (depending on funder), and our office clinics. . Our current areas that we serve are Long Island, NYC, Hudson Valley, and Albany. Children must already have a diagnosis of Autism, as we are not able to provide the evaluation through insurance.

What insurances are you in network with?

We are currently in network with most insurance plans. Our insurance acceptance list (link to insurance page) is updating on a regular basis. Please call us at 877-654-0999 to confirm if we accept your insurance. We also offer affordable self-pay rates if necessary.

Our intake staff will verify your benefits, obtain pre-authorization or pre-certification, and your deductible and copay information, but it is important to note that this is not a guarantee of payment from you insurance carrier. Payment cannot be determined until claims are submitted and responded to by your insurance carrier. Even after benefits and eligibility are verified, you may still be responsible for payment in the event that claims are denied.

How do I get started?

If you are planning to use your insurance benefits, we can check with your insurance carrier to obtain a quote of benefits and an authorization or pre-certification. Once this step is completed, we will need you to complete an intake packet and send in a prescription for ABA and a diagnosis report. We will then request for one of our skilled BCBAs to contact you to complete an assessment, where they will work with your child and family to create the skill acquisition plan and behavior intervention plan. . We can also provide additional services if you currently have an IEP or IFSP and are looking to supplement those services, as this therapy will occur through your medical insurance, rather than the school.

What will you work on with my child?

Our ABA therapy focuses on teaching your child functional skills in natural environment so that they become as happy and independent as possible.  We specialize in reducing increasing functional communication skills, reducing challenging behaviors by increasing functional behaviors, improving play and social skills, and increasing daily living skills. BCBAs (Board Certified Behavior Analysts) will create individualized goals for your child and family after conducting an initial assessment, and will involve the child’s caregivers to ensure generalization. A team-based approach of the child’s therapists, caregivers, and child is taken to involve everyone in the child’s progress. . We currently offer social skills groups at our Long Island, NYC, and Hudson Valley offices with our ABA therapy..

How do I check if see if my insurance covers the cost of ABA (autism services) for my child?

Achieve Beyond will follow-up with your insurance company to verify eligibility, benefits, and co-pays if applicable.

Where are therapy services provided?

CSE

What is CSE?
CSE stands for Committee on Special Education. These are services for children ages 5-21 who need any service on the special education continuum. These services are paid for by your local school district and can be provided by an agency or school approved by your district.
How do I refer my child for CSE services?
You or a qualified professional can refer your child to your local school district that will start an evaluation process for you and your child. You will have to complete paperwork with your local school district that allows your child to be evaluated. The school district may contract with an agency depending on the evaluation needs of your child or evaluations will be conducted in the district. There are timelines that both you and the school district must follow in order to complete this process. If your child was already deemed eligible for services under the CSE, and further home-based services are recommended, please contact us for more information.
How will I know what services my child will receive in CSE?
The services that your child will be eligible for will be determined by the team that participates in the initial CSE meeting and the District Chairperson. This decision will be based on the evaluations and reports presented during the meeting. All of this information will be reviewed with you prior to the meeting by the district. The committee will include you and anyone you want to bring as well as individuals that will represent the school district and the evaluation representative.

During this meeting, the results of the evaluations will be discussed and the Committee will determine if your child meets NYS criteria to be classified as a preschooler with a disability. If your child meets NYS criteria, the Committee will develop an educational plan to support your child.

What type of therapy services do you provide?

Achieve Beyond is a multidisciplinary practice that provides speech and occupational therapies, as well as, ABA therapy for children from birth to 21 years. We offer individualized, one-on-one therapy sessions.

 

Where are therapy services provided? 

Our ABA sessions are provided both in-home and in our clinic in Whittier, as well as home-based ABA in San Francisco and surrounding areas. Our insurance based speech and occupational therapy sessions are provided in our Whittier clinic. We provide in-home and in-clinic Early Intervention speech and occupational therapy
in the greater Los Angeles area.

 

What are your hours of operation?

Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday 9am to 7pm, and Saturday 8am-2pm
Our administrative office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm

 

Do you have Bilingual Speech Therapists on staff?

What services do you currently offer?

Achieve Beyond is a multidisciplinary practice that provides speech, occupational, and physical therapies, as well as, Autism therapy services, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), for children from birth to 21 years. We offer individualized, structured one on one sessions in a traditional weekly schedule.

Currently our private pediatric speech, physical, and occupational therapies are provided in our state of the art clinic located in Fairfax for the convenience of our families. Our ABA therapy services can be provided in your home, clinic (located in Fairfax), and/or community. Our home based and community services encompasses a vast range of Northern Virginia, Maryland and the DC area.

 

What methods of payment do you offer?
Pediatric Autism and Behavioral services

Private Pediatric Services (SP, OT, PT)

Achieve Beyond currently provides ABA therapy for children through health insurance. We are able to provide these services in your home and community (depending on funder). Our current areas that we serve are Fairfield and New Haven counties.

 

What insurances are you in network with?

We are currently in network with most insurance plans. Our insurance acceptance list (link to insurance page) is updating on a regular basis. Please call us at  1-877-654-0999 to confirm if we accept your insurance. We also offer affordable self-pay rates if necessary.

Our intake staff will verify your benefits, obtain pre-authorization or pre-certification, and your deductible and copay information, but it is important to note that this is not a guarantee of payment from you insurance carrier. Payment cannot be determined until claims are submitted and responded to by your insurance carrier. Even after benefits and eligibility are verified, you may still be responsible for payment in the event that claims are denied.

If you are planning to use your insurance benefits, we can check with your insurance carrier to obtain a quote of benefits and an authorization or pre-certification. Once this step is completed, we will need you to complete an intake packet and send in a prescription for ABA and a diagnosis report. We will then request for one of our skilled BCBAs to contact you to complete an assessment, where they will work with your child and family to create the skill acquisition plan and behavior intervention plan. . We can also provide additional services if you currently have an IEP or IFSP and are looking to supplement those services, as this
therapy will occur through your medical insurance, rather than the school.

We specialize in reducing increasing functional communication skills, reducing challenging behaviors by increasing functional behaviors, improving play and social skills, and increasing daily living skills.
