A verbal behavior inventory sheet is a tool used to track and analyze the different ways an individual communicates, such as requesting (mands), labeling (tacts), repeating what was just said(echoics), and responding to fill ins or questions where the item isn’t present (intraverbal). It helps ABA professionals identify strengths and areas for growth in communication, which guides their teaching strategies.
To use it, observe the individual during sessions, record examples of their verbal behavior under the appropriate categories, and look for patterns that can inform goals and interventions. Make sure you document what it sounds like if they cna’t articulate the full word. Even if you don’t know why they are saying the vocalization, it is important to write it down.
After tracking this, you can see the patterns of what sounds the child can make, under what conditions they will make them, and this will help you to determine what to focus on teaching!
