What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific, problem-solving approach designed to produce socially-significant outcomes.

In other words, Behavior Analysts aim to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities using the science of behavior. With a focus on positive reinforcement and motivation, behavior analysis has become the leading therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as it teaches children functional behaviors to help them become happy and more independent individuals.

The application of ABA is not limited to individuals with Autism, however, over 60 years of research supports its effectiveness in meeting the complex needs of this population.

Achieve Beyond’s ABA Programs include:

  • Team consisting of Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and highly trained Behavior Therapist (BT) or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
  • Verbal Behavior approach to increase language
  • Comprehensive Assessment with individualized goals focusing on increasing a child’s independence and happiness
  • Parent Training/Team meetings to encourage generalizations
  • Errorless teaching procedures to minimize frustration
  • Naturalistic teaching in a fun environment in order to capture a child’s motivation and keep them interested
  • Functional Behavior Assessment to determine why problem behaviors occur to determine the best strategies to teach
  • Functional Communication Training to replace problem behaviors with appropriate behavior
  • Social skills focused teaching plans and groups
  • Individualized, data-driven treatment plans are constantly and consistently updated based on the child’s progress
  • Quality Assurance mechanisms in place

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy aids in the development of skills that support engagement in everyday life activities that support health, well-being, and quality of life of people. Occupational Therapists (OTs) use a variety of therapy techniques that develop the individual's fine motor skills, visual-perceptual readiness, cognitive abilities, and attention span. These services could be needed if a child is suffering from cases including but not limited to birth defects, developmental delays, learning problems, and broken bones.

Achieve Beyond L.A. Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Achieve Beyond specializes in pediatric occupational therapy services that focus on enabling infants and children to do the activities of daily life. In pediatric occupational therapy sessions the therapists work with children and their families to promote active participation in occupations that are meaningful to them such as activities that enable them to learn and develop life skills, be creative and/or derive enjoyment and thrive. Techniques that improve the child's overall development include:

  • Everyday Activity Training (brushing teeth, feeding, dressing etc.)
  • Coordination Therapy
  • Cognitive Development

Achieve Beyond's licensed OTs/COTAs use their passion for helping children to examine, evaluate and develop an individualized program to address their difficulties with performance of daily activities in the areas of feeding/eating, self-care, play, learning and development. Our OTs and COTAs work with the children and their families to dramatically improve all their fine motor skills and overall occupational performance.

What is Speech-Language Therapy?

Speech-Language therapy services evaluate patients with language and speech impairments or disorders and conducts remedial programs designed to restore or improve their communication efficacy. Speech pathologists (SLPs) assess and treat people with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.

Our wonderful speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs) and SLPs provide our children and families to improve the child’s oral and communication skills. A speech disorder commonly refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder references a difficulty in understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas.

These services could be needed if a person is suffering from cases such as stuttering, hearing impairments, weak oral muscles, autism and various swallowing disorders to name a few.

Achieve Beyond Pediatric Speech-Language Therapy

Achieve Beyond specializes in pediatric speech language therapy services that assist in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of physical and/or cognitive difficulties relating to verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties, stuttering and voice disorders. Our therapists use techniques such as:

  • Language Intervention Therapy
  • Articulation Therapy
  • Feeding / Oral Motor Therapy
  • Voice / Fluency Therapy

Our licensed SLPs develop an individualized service plan tailored to each child’s needs. Achieve Beyond SLPs and SLPAs work with children on how to make sounds, correct produce of sounds and syllables, improve the tone or quality of their voices, or increase their oral language skills to communicate more effectively. They also work on coordinating and conditioning muscles used in swallowing and eating to prevent choking or inhaling food or liquids.
