Full Time CPSE Special Education Evaluator (NYC)

Special Educators are members of the MDE (Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team) who assess the child’s cognitive, communication, social emotional, adaptive and physical skills. Special Educators conduct school and home observations for children being evaluated for the Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE) program through the Department of Education. For each child being evaluated, the evaluators obtain information regarding the child’s development and the child’s developmental progress. The Special Educator is also responsible for completing draft IEP pages for each child.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Schedules and submits evaluation reports and documents on time including suggested revisions
  • Writes parent friendly and comprehensive evaluation reports and submits reports in a timely manner
  • Maintains good communication with department administrative staff regarding clinical questions, timelines, and overall updates and informs them when scheduling issues occur
  • Attends and participates in IEP meetings, when needed
  • Other duties as assigned by manager
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Education required
  • NYS Teaching Certification: Student with Disabilities Birth – 2 (Initial or Professional) OR Special Education Permanent Certification OR TSHH Permanent Certification
  • Experience working with 2 – 5 year old children a plus
  • Experience with CPSE a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe and Outlook
  • Bilingual Spanish required with Bilingual Extension certification
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Must be organized , motivated, .and willing to work as part of a team and independently
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to travel to and from assigned cases including but not limited to driving personal vehicle, walking, and/or use of public transportation such as a bus or train.
  • The ability to climb and descend staircases
  • The ability to lift 10 pounds regularly
  • The ability to sit on the floor, kneel, and/ or crawl for extended periods

 

Compensation depends on experience and will be discussed during the interview process.
